A breather from study!
Do you stick your head in the wall while trying to read about Hobbes' state of nature, or while learning about tort law or trying to find the definition of double and triple integrals? Give yourself a well-deserved break from the exam stress and relax with Mindfullness meditation!
Five times up until Christmas, Mindfullness meditation will be held in Store møterom at Georg Sverdrup's house at the University of Oslo, and the first course is already this Thursday 18 November!
The doctrine of presence
The courses will be held by the students Andreas Voldstad and Michael Storm Munch. Both have a lot of experience with the meditation technique and in being instructors. Through a one-year temple stay with instructor training, in addition to meditation retreats.
What is mindfullness?
- Mindfullness is about practicing being present in the here and now. You train your attention and to have a curious, non-judgmental attitude to your own experiences. This means, for example, that you allow stressful thoughts to come and go, instead of trying to push them away or get caught up in them, Andreas explains.
The actual meditation techniques involve focusing attention on the breath and the senses. This is not always easy, and therefore you also learn to be patient with yourself. During exam time, it can be difficult to find room to take a break, calm down and be present. With simple techniques, Mindfulness meditation can help one find focus. Although mindfulness is not about relaxing, it is very common that it has a relaxing effect, says Andreas.
Mindfullness meditation also helps you train concentration, and is an evidence-based method for reducing stress, increasing well-being and self-compassion.

Thursday 18.11 at 16:00 - 17:00
Tuesday 23.11 at 15:30 - 17:30
Tuesday 30.11 at 10:00 - 12:00
Thursday 16.12 at 14:00 - 16:00
Tuesday 21.12 at 10:00 - 12:00
Andreas adds that it is very nice to meditate with others, and that the courses are for both those who have tried the meditation method before and those who are completely new to it.
We hope this will be a nice break where everyone feels welcome just the way they feel that day. You do not have to be there from the first meeting and you can jump on the course at any time during the race.
There is a requirement for registration, it is not binding, but so the course leaders have an estimate of how many will show.
