Social December

Darkness has descended and the pre-Christmas season is approaching. In a time of great pressure and a hectic exam period, we are creating a space for you to relax and enjoy the pre-Christmas period. Treat yourself to a few hours off from your exam preparation and do something cozy to get in the Christmas mood.

In a dark time, it is important to create small bright and happy moments in everyday life. Here, you get an overview of what the Student Initiative Grant and SiO, together with the students and educational institutions, are arranging in the run-up to Christmas. Together we can lower the stress levels and at the same time get in the mood for Christmas. Join the upcoming events - either with a fellow student or come alone and get to know someone new. Together, we will create social gatherings and cozy pre-Christmas activities!

For more info about each event, check out our Activity Calendar or see the events on SiO's Facebook.

Christmas market

The design students at Høyskolen Kristiania will have a Christmas market for the 20th time. Here, the design students will offer free mulled wine (alcohol free) and gingerbread. At the Christmas market you can buy everything from unique jewelry, Christmas cards and bags, to handmade candles and forged items. There will also be live Christmas music and a decorated Christmas tree. For more info, see the Facebook event here.

The Christmas market can be found in Christian Krohgs gate 32 and is open on 27th and 28th November from 12-18. Admission is free, and open for everyone!

Gingerbread baking

From 6th to the 9th of December, SiO invites students to gingerbread baking at their restaurants. SiO offers gingerbread dough, so you can take a seat at the long table and roll, stick and decorate Christmas gingerbread with icing and decorations. Lighting the Christmas tree

On December 1st, the Christmas tree will be lit at Kringsjå student village. Crawl out of your dormitory and join a cozy Christmas "Julegrantenning" with your neighbors. You are just as welcome even if you do not live at Kringsjå.

We can also tempt with free mulled wine (alcohol free), gingerbread and a choir. Get in the Christmas spirit as we form rings and walk around the Christmas tree, or join the competition where some Christmas presents are handed out to a few lucky students.

See Facebook event here.

Set course towards Kringsjå Torg on December 1st. The Christmas tree will be lit at 16!

Pre-Christmas atmosphere at Amatøren student bar

This autumn, Amatøren has finally reopened after a long period of renovation. Therefore, we will use the opportunity to hold weekly events at the student bar - as well as events that offer a good Christmas atmosphere.

It will be "Exchange night" on December the 14th. The purpose of the event is to promote intercultural networking in a newly renovated student house. The goal is to gather both international and local students to meet, share new languages and cultures, and make new friends. Around this time of year, many students return home. If you have something you want to exchange or give away before you go home - then this is the evening! If you do not have a physical thing to give, it is more than enough with good advice, some nice words or a good Christmas hug. There will also be materials available so you can make your own Christmas presents.

Dec 14th from 19-24, at Amatøren in Sogn student village.

''Christmas night'' på Amatøren

December 21st, we welcome you to a "Christmas night" at Amatøren. This will be the last event of the year at Amatøren under the auspices of the Students Initiative Grant. This evening you will experience both the typical Norwegian and traditional Christmas, but also Christmas traditions from other parts of the world. There will also be Christmas music, snacks and opportunities to make Christmas presents.

Dec 21st from 19-24, at Amatøren in Sogn student village.

Social pre-Christmas Eve

The students Initiative Grant arranges a social pre-Christmas evening on 9th December. This will be a packed evening with music and fun activities! There will be an opportunity to sing karaoke and win prizes during the quiz. We welcome you to a nice break during the exam period, with free snacks and a good pre-Christmas atmosphere!

Welcome to ''klubbscenen'' at Chateau Neuf Dec 9th at 6.30pm!

We remind you that...

Everyone should feel included in the Christmas season! The Student Initiative Grant want to remind you that we have created a pleasant, safe and efficient way you can easily expand your network. It is always possible to sign up for "Semester with new friends" - and if you are in doubt, do not hesitate to join! Sign up easily here, and you will be assigned to a group with the same interests as you have stated.

We have also started up a completely unique mental health service for Oslo students now - Peer Support! All Peer Supporters have completed compulsory training and are now ready to help students. If you need someone to talk to about being a student, wondering where reading rooms and libraries are, or feeling the pressure of exams for example, contact Peer Support. We remind you that all Peer Supporters have a duty of confidentiality, so you can safely talk to them about big and small problems.

Read more or contact Peer Support here. You will shortly be offered a conversation with one of our Peer Supporters.
